Designed a high-fidelity 3D model of an architectural subject, optimized specifically for successful 3D printing while preserving intricate details.
Challenges
- Designing the model to minimize difficult overhangs and the need for extensive support material.
- Creating a completely watertight (manifold) mesh free from errors for successful slicing software processing.
- Dividing large/complex architectural models into printable sections with precise assembly features.
Solutions
- Adjusted angles where feasible and strategically sectioned the model for optimal print orientation
- Employed mesh diagnostic tools and performed manual cleanup to guarantee a solid, error-free model
- Designed interlocking keys or registration marks to facilitate accurate assembly of printed parts
